About
My life verses are I Corinthians 9:22-23, “I have become all things to all people so that by all means possible I might save some. I do all of this for the sake of the gospel so that I may share in its blessing.”
I love Lakeside and feel so fortunate to have been directed by God to be part of such a great church community. My principle responsibilities at Lakeside (notice that I said principle because there are many things I do that are not on the list) are to lead; teach and make sure people are cared for and connected. I give insight and input to the overall strategic and spiritual direction of the church.
Leading and teaching are my spiritual gifts and personal passions. I have read hundreds of books on leadership and teaching and strive to continually sharpen my skills in these areas. As facilitator for the Leadership Team, I act as a mentor, leader and listener to the staff team. I teach about 75% of the Sunday morning services. As a member of Lakesides’ teaching team, I also conduct seminars and courses.
I want:
* The ministry of Lakeside to be culturally relevant and biblically sound.
* To this end, I spend as much time reading my Bible as I do the things of our culture
* To learn as much as I can about the people who share the world with me.
* To know what they like, what makes them tick and what they are searching for and seeking after.
I love: (in no particular order)
* Lakeside
* playing golf and baseball
* watching any and all sports
* spending time with family and friends
* hanging out at Chapters
* anything to do with technology
* reading
* a wide variety of music
My History
I was born in Hamilton, Ontario on December 30, 1957 and grew up in a ministry home. I am a PK (pastor’s kid) and ministry was the last thing in the world I wanted to do when I left high school. I have two brothers and three adopted sisters.
My wife Sue and I were married on September 16, 1978. We have three beautiful daughters; Heather, Lindsay and Lauren. We also share our home with our dog Bailey. Using the gift of Hospitality is something Sue and I enjoy doing.
For ten years I was a funeral director. Following that I was a VP for a financial institution. I graduated from Tyndale Seminary in 1988. In 1992 there was a specific time when I felt the leading of God to go into full time ministry. I started as a teaching pastor at Harbour Fellowship Church in June 1994. Our family came to Lakeside in August of 1999 and it has been a great ride ever since. God has surely blessed us!
